About SEMWA

SEMWA is the Southeast Regional Chapter of the Mystery Writers of America (MWA), the premier organization for mystery and crime writers, industry professionals, aspiring authors, and readers who love crime fiction.

We support MWA’s mission to promote recognition and appreciation for the mystery genre while educating writers about every aspect of the publishing industry, from legislation and professional standards to the craft of storytelling.

Our chapter serves members across six states—Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Because of our wide geographic reach, we meet virtually on the second Monday of each month, typically featuring guest speakers and programs designed to inform, inspire, and connect our members.

SEMWA is also proud to support and sponsor major regional events, including:

  • Killer Nashville International Writers’ Conference
  • Murder in the Magic City
  • Mystery in the Midlands
